England's Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test for New Zealand was against the English side in the final month of 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The ex- Kiwi seamer is expected to be available for the first Test because of his participation in the ILT20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was named, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the next little while."
England pace icon Broad had stated the Australian team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which starts on 21 November.
"I don't think there's at any time a poor Aussie side," Southee said.
"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] side that's heading out to Australia is excellent.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, before the English team travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
