Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

The manager lamented familiar failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with results so bad.”

He stated, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
